Drainage System
A drainage system is used to collect and remove rainwater from a town or area. There are two
main types of drainage systems.
Combined System:
This system uses one set of drains for both rainwater and sewage.
- Advantages:: It can be simpler and cheaper to install
- Disadvantages:: During heavy rain, it can overflow and cause problems.
Separate System:
This system has one set of drains for rainwater and another for sewage.
- Advantages:: It helps prevent overflow and keeps sewage from mixing with rainwater.
- Disadvantages:: It can be more expensive to build and maintain.
Types of Drains
- Open Drains:: These are visible channels that carry water away. They can be made from bricks or stones and come in various shapes.
- Closed Drains:: These are covered pipes that transport water underground.
In low-lying areas, where water might not flow easily, pumping stations may be needed to help move the water.
In summary, drainage systems are essential for managing rainwater effectively, and their design depends on the specific needs of the area.
